NATIONAL: David Muledhu has been appointed National Executive Commissioner of the Uganda Scouts Association (USA). Muledhu replaces Richard Okello who succumbed to kidney failure at Kiruddu Hospital in May after serving the scouts body for 15 years as the top boss.
Muledhu, who beat several other top contenders to the coveted position, commended the Scouts board for choosing the right person.
“ I would like to thank the Chief Commissioner Gen. Katumba Wamala for betting on me. The board for taking me through a rigorous process and ensuring that the right person occupies the office,” Muledhu said.
The passionate scout pledged to consolidate the achievements the scouts body has registered in its more than 100 years of existence.
“As an association, we have come from very far and we are indeed at a point where we need to harness the achievements we have registered over the last 100 years,” Muledhu said.
Muledhu dedicated his appointment to young scouts all over the country who yearn for greater things.
“An appointment of this nature surely brings happiness. To the members of the scouting fraternity both on these social media platforms and those out there, this appointment is for you. It is for young scouts as envisaged by the founder Lord Baden Powell. I am only a first among equals,” Muledhu said.
Muledhu has served the scouts body right from his formative years through his youth to adulthood raising through the ranks from teenage Avonja to now the country’s top scouts boss.
“The scouting movement has been a lifetime engagement for me. From a child joining the movement in Mayuge, to a teenage Avonja (Jinja Scout) lifting blocks and contributing to the construction of the beautiful Buwenda Campsite to serving the association in various capacities,” Muledhu said.
Muledhu said scouting has offered him a lifeline by facilitating his education from primary to university.
“My prayer is that together we manage to achieve a lot and leave the association a little better than we found it,” he said.
