The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) are currently conducting a recruitment drive to enlist 10,000 new personnel into the force. On July 8, 2024, 107 individuals were recruited in Mbale City and Mbale District to join the UPDF.
Col Saad Katemba, who is heading the recruitment exercise in Eastern Uganda, noted that the process is proceeding smoothly in his operational region.
Colonel Saad highlighted that the UPDF only accepts candidates with senior four academic qualifications, and those who have achieved credit in English and Mathematics. Additionally, candidates must be Ugandan citizens and in good health.
He also mentioned that the improvements and changes within the army have made the force more attractive to young people, leading to increased interest in joining the UPDF. He further noted that there is no corruption in the recruitment of UPDF officers.
Colonel Saad advised those who did not qualify to remain calm and wait for the next opportunity, as many of them are still young and will have future chances to apply.
Acting Resident City Commissioner of Mbale City, Asumin Nasike, also provided insights into the UPDF recruitment exercise taking place in her area.
She warned those who plan to corrupt the officers so that their children are recruited that if arrested, they will face the law. She urged people to follow the proper procedures so that the right personnel are recruited.
