Luuka: In an inspiring display of community service, Luuka Youth Development Agenda (LUYODA) youth group recently undertook a significant initiative to clean Kiyunga Health Center IV and Kiyunga town in Luuka district. This youth-led movement, aimed at fostering patriotism and self-development among young people, is making strides in transforming the district.
LUYODA, initially founded to unite youths in constructive activities, has taken a proactive approach to community development, moving beyond conventional stereotypes associated with youth behavior. The group not only cleaned public spaces but also made generous donations, including soap, sugar, maize flour, basins, mother kits, gloves, and other essential items to those in need within Luuka.
Chairman of LUYODA in Luuka, Katente Brian, emphasized the importance of youths engaging in activities that uplift their communities. He urged fellow young people to embrace initiatives that add value to society, challenging leaders to support the youth in their developmental endeavors.
“I encourage youths to try to do things that add value to our communities, and I also encourage leaders to come out and work with young people who have goals to help their communities so that we can develop our district together,” said Katente.
Mbwali Lydia Magumba, a midwife at Kiyunga Health Center IV, praised the youths for their collaborative efforts in community service. She also highlighted the need for men to fulfill their responsibilities, supporting their wives and families.
Wakiso Benjamini, the finance officer of LUYODA, emphasized the importance of avoiding detrimental behaviors like drug use and violence. He emphasized that the youth, often associated with negative activities, are also capable of contributing positively to their communities.
Mudondo Marry Sharon called on girls to join LUYODA in the fight against teenage pregnancy and contribute to the overall development of Luuka district.
Joel Bageya, the technical adviser of LUYODA, encouraged youth to shift their focus from politics to income-generating activities, emphasizing the transformative impact of constructive engagement over political arguments.
This initiative by LUYODA signifies a departure from negative stereotypes associated with youth behavior and demonstrates the positive impact young people can have on community development. As they continue to lead by example, LUYODA is calling on more youth in Luuka to join their cause and collectively contribute to the progress of the district.
