In a thrilling match during the ongoing Sky View Boys Schools Cricket Week, Pius Oloka and Richard Sohera showcased exceptional performances as Jinja Senior Secondary School secured a commanding victory against Busoga College Mwiri, winning by a margin of 57 runs. The clash, which took place on Thursday, witnessed Jinja SSS post a formidable total of 148/5, overpowering Mwiri’s score of 91/10.

Oloka’s standout performance both with the bat and the ball earned him the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. The talented cricketer managed to amass an impressive half-century, scoring 50 runs from just 34 balls, embellished by five boundaries. Furthermore, Oloka’s contribution extended beyond his batting prowess as he also showcased his bowling skills, taking three crucial wickets. Reflecting on his innings, Oloka expressed, “Scoring runs is my role as a batsman, and I focused on executing my shots to reach the 50-run milestone.” He attributed their success to their disciplined approach as both batsmen and bowlers, underscoring its significance in their standout performance.

On the other hand, Richard Sohera’s stellar performance bolstered Jinja SSS’s dominance. Sohera’s contribution of 52 runs from 50 balls, punctuated by three boundaries, showcased his resilience and batting prowess. However, his innings came to an end when he was run out by Edgar Mudoola, adding an element of drama to the game.

Hassan Bagaga’s steady knock of 10 runs and Paul Mulongo’s unbeaten 9 runs further solidified Jinja SSS’s commanding total. In response, Busoga College Mwiri struggled to match the intensity of their opponents. Conrad Lubwama’s valiant effort led the Mwiri innings with a team-high 18 runs before he was dismissed by Peter Oloka’s skillful delivery. Donald Kyangungu contributed 17 runs before being run out by Paul Mulongo, while Edgar Mudoola’s 10 runs added to Mwiri’s total. Unfortunately for Mudoola, he was caught by Peter Ocen following a delivery by Cyrus Kunsa.

As a result of their outstanding performance, Jinja SSS emerged as the sole undefeated team in Group A of the tournament, handing Mwiri their first loss. With 10 points from five games, Jinja SSS leads the eight-team table by a margin of two points ahead of their neighboring competitors.

In Group B, Nyakasura school maintains an unbeaten record after six games, accumulating 12 points. Kololo Senior Secondary School holds the second position with 10 points from six games.

The path to the tournament’s semifinals is now clearer, with the top two teams from each group advancing. As the competition progresses, the semifinalists will ultimately vie for a spot in the finals. The Sky view Boys’ Schools Cricket Week 2023 edition, a showcase of cricket talent, is presently underway in Jinja City, featuring 16 secondary schools from various corners of the country.
