The Women’s T20 League resumed with a day of exciting cricket, featuring three games at different venues, each hosting double headers.
Soroti City and Tornado Bee split double header at Lakeside Oval
At the Lakeside Oval, Soroti City Cricket Club and Tornado Bee Cricket Club each secured a victory in the double header.
In the morning match, Tornado Bee struggled and was bowled out for just 48 runs. Malemikai Patricia stood out, scoring 21 runs off 15 balls, but it wasn’t enough. Soroti City chased the target in only 8.1 overs, losing just one wicket. Apolot Patricia was exceptional with the ball, taking 4 wickets for just 6 runs in 2.4 overs.
Despite their morning struggles, Tornado Bee bounced back in the afternoon match, securing a narrow 2-wicket win against Soroti City. Soroti City couldn’t build any significant partnerships, with Janet Mbabazi’s 10 runs being the highest individual score. Shakirah Sadick and Oyella Teddy led Tornado Bee’s bowling attack, taking 3 and 4 wickets respectively, bowling out Soroti City for just 32 runs.
Even though Tornado Bee had a shaky start in their chase, they managed to hold their nerves and secured a 2-wicket victory.
Olila Cricket Club Dominates at Lugogo Cricket Oval
At the Lugogo Cricket Oval, Olila Cricket Club claimed victories in both their games with impressive performances.
In the first match, strong batting contributions from Anyait Lona (49 runs) and Asumin Akurut (24 runs) helped Olila set a target of 94 runs in a reduced 10-over game, losing only 2 wickets. In the chase, Kumar Josephine and Sarah Akiteng’s bowling ensured no threatening partnerships formed, each taking 3 wickets, leading Olila to a 64-run win over Pioneer Cricket Club.
Despite notable efforts from Pioneer’s batters, Babra Nanyazi (37 runs) and Naula Hasfa (21 runs), Olila secured the afternoon win with a 6-wicket victory. Racheal Achan and Phiona Egaru played crucial roles, scoring 25 and 23 runs respectively, guiding Olila to a double header win after a shaky start with both opening batters getting out for ducks.
JACC and Africa Cricket Club trade wins in Jinja
In Jinja, both teams registered wins. JACC held their nerves to claim a 7-run win over Africa Cricket Club in a reduced-over game. However, in the afternoon match, Africa Cricket Club dominated with an 8-wicket victory. A notable partnership between Nalumansi Resty (20 runs) and Sarah Walaza (50 runs) led their innings.
Saturday’s results place Soroti City Cricket Club at the top of Group A with 8 points, followed by Jinja SS (4 points), Africa Cricket Club (2 points), Tornado Bee (2 points), and JACC (2 points) at the bottom.
In Group B, Olila Cricket Club leads with 4 points, Pioneer Cricket Club is in second place with the same points, while Tornado Cricket Club and Wanderers Cricket Club have no point yet.
