IGANGA – – Iganga residents are in shock after receiving the news of the death of former Iganga Municipality MP candidate Denis Waiswa.
Waiswa was part of the entourage that was escorting Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine to Omoro District in northern Uganda to garner support for the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Simon Tolit in the Omoro County bye-election.

There after Bobi Wine’s convoy headed to Omoro with Waiswa in tow but when they reached Kumi District, the driver of the vehicle that Waiswa and five others were travelling in lost control and overturned several times, killing two on the spot.
The other person who died on the spot is Yusuf Yakubu Kiggundu from Kawempe.
“We have lost a very important person in the struggle. Waiswa has been a key pillar in the struggle and has been channeling the meager resources he has in the struggle,” said Aziza Kakerewe, the head NUP women in eastern Uganda and former Iganga Woman MP aspirant.
“You fought for my win in Ibulanku. I cannot forget how you rescued my declaration forms at the sub-county headquarters,” said Ibrahim Ndhoga, the Ibulanku sub-county chairperson.
Waiswa contested for the Iganga Municipality MP seat on the Independent ticket after losing the NUP flag to Francis Muganga. He, however, remained a very staunch supporter of NUP to his death.
