Residents of Makuutu in Bugweri district have been urged to work closely with Rwenzori Rare Metals, a company that was given the license to exploit the recently discovered mineral resource in the area. “The constitution gives government power to govern as well as exploit natural resources in the country for the betterment of the people,” Nankabirwa said, adding that the mining project in the area will go on. JINJA — Several fire fighters from eastern region are battling a terrifying inferno that is razing down the Supplies Department of Kakira Sugar Limited, threatening the main sugar mill as well as the multi-billion shillings distillery. The fire that started shortly before 8pm overpowered Kakira’s firefighter department, calling for backups from Jinja City and Iganga. WAKISO — A mother who left to fetch water early morning returned home to be greeted by the piercing last wails of four children in her house that was billowing thick smoke. Annet Naigaga’s two children Eve Namulindwa, 8, and Isan Kibuuka, 6, perished in the early morning fire alongside her grandchildren Noreen Nansubuga, 3, and one only identified as Cynthia. KAMPALA — At least nine people have perished in an accident that occurred Saturday evening at Kawoko-Kanoni on the Masaka-Bukomansimbi highway. The accident reportedly  occurred when one of the tyres of a FUSO truck from Nyendo, Masaka, that was carrying scores of traders to Bukomansimbi burst, and the driver  lost control of the vehicle. “The truck was ferrying over 40 traders from Nyendo to Bukomansimbi. JINJA — The Uganda scouts fraternity are mourning the passing of their National Executive Commissioner Richard Okello who succumbed to kidney failure at Kiruddu Hospital on Thursday morning.
