On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, authorities in the eastern Tororo district, led by RDC Mr. Albert Amula, Assistant RDC Julius Oketcho, members of the district executive, and political leaders, launched several projects implemented in the financial year 2023/2024.
The newly constructed administration blocks at Akadot Sub-county, undertaken by M/S Deliton Services Limited, and the Merikit Sub-county administration block, constructed by M/S Tsandex Investments Limited, were among the notable projects commissioned by the district local government officials.
Presiding over the commissioning ceremonies, Mr. Albert Amula, the Tororo RDC, commended the district leadership for lobbying, monitoring, and ensuring that the contractors performed effectively with the significant works.
“I want to task the sub-county chiefs to be the custodians of the properties and ensure proper maintenance of the respective infrastructure,” Mr. Amula said.
At Apokor Primary School, a three-classroom block constructed by M/S Fiona International LTD was commissioned. According to the RDC, the new structure will help improve education standards and reduce congestion in classrooms. The school has over 2,183 pupils with a limited number of classrooms. Amula instructed the school headteacher to ensure that the school’s performance improved, as the challenge of limited classrooms was partially addressed.
“I appreciate all the various contractors for the good work undertaken on the respective projects and implore them to keep up the spirit,” he said.
However, Mr. Amula pledged to organize community engagements in all 42 lower local governments to address challenges in the Parish Development Model (PDM) program after receiving rampant complaints from beneficiaries in the district.
The Tororo District Vice Chairperson, Rebecca Akumu, urged the beneficiaries to utilize the newly constructed infrastructure to deliver effective and efficient services to the people. She tasked the beneficiaries, especially the sub-county chiefs who received warm offices, to promote the socio-economic transformation of households.
The classroom block at Apokor Primary School, constructed by M/S Fiona International Limited, cost shs132 million. The Akadot Sub-county headquarters, constructed by M/S Deliton Services LTD, had a contract sum of shs190 million. The administration block at Merikit Sub-county, constructed by M/S Tsandex Investments LTD, had a contract sum of shs179 million.
