The Police in Kaliro have apprehended a 27-year-old teacher, Protus Fumbula Wafula, on charges of allegedly defiling his 14-year-old former pupil from Home Darling Day and Boarding Primary School in Kaliro town council. The victim, a resident of Bwite village, Mpande town, Namutumba District, is said to have been in a sexual relationship with the suspect.

Preliminary investigations reveal that during the third term of the academic year 2023, Wafula was the teacher of the victim, who was in P.7 at the time. He allegedly enticed her into a sexual affair, even providing her with his telephone contact to maintain communication.

The two reportedly met after a period of communication, engaged in a sexual relationship, and earlier this year, the victim confided in her sister about her involvement with the teacher. The matter was promptly reported to Ivukula police station under Namutumba District for further investigation.

Busoga North Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha stated that the case file has been transferred to Kaliro, and the suspect has been arrested and detained pending additional investigations.

This incident marks the second case of a similar nature in Kaliro within a period of less than a month. ASP Michael Kasadha called on the public to actively join other stakeholders in the fight against sexual practices that endanger the well-being of children.

“We implore members of the public to actively join other stakeholders in the fight against sexual practices that undermine the well-being of children,” said ASP Michael Kasadha.
