The bustling town of Jinja is gearing up to host the highly anticipated 2023 edition of the Boys’ Schools Cricket Week, a cricketing tournament that showcases the remarkable talent of young cricketers from across Uganda. This year’s tournament carries an exciting twist as it bears the name of its sponsor, Harris International, the creators of the popular Sky View soda brand, who have generously injected a whopping 30 million Ugandan Shillings into the event.

“We are excited to partner with Uganda Cricket Assoaciation, especially on their flagship competition like the Boys’ Schools Cricket Week. Sky View believes in pushing boundaries and going beyond limits. With this partnership, we hope to inspire young minds to pursue their dreams fearlessly and live life to the fullest,” expressed Ishta Atukunda, the Public Relations Officer of Harris International.

Set to unfold from August 26th to September 2nd, the week-long cricket tournament will take place at five distinguished venues across Jinja. The picturesque Jinja Senior Secondary School cricket oval, Busoga College Mwiri, Jinja College, and the iconic Kakindu ground are all set to witness the fierce competition that the event promises.

Playing the role of gracious hosts, Jinja Senior Secondary School will provide the perfect backdrop for this cricketing spectacle. The tournament will draw teams from six regions in Uganda, with Central, Nile, West, South West, North, and East all represented.

Western Region: Masaka Senior Secondary School, Ntare School

South West Region: Nyakasura, Kilembe Senior Secondary School

Nile Region: Busoga College Mwiri, Jinja Senior Secondary School, Good Heart, Lords Meade, Kiira College Butiki

    Northern Region: St. John’s Layibi

    Eastern Region: Teso College Aloet

Central Region: Kololo Senior Secondary School, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, Delhi Public School, St. John’s Kauga, St. John’s Mukono

The defending champions of this annual event, Busoga College Mwiri, are expected to bring their A-game to the pitch as they defend their title against some of the most promising young talents in Ugandan cricket.

The Boys’ Schools Cricket Week isn’t just a battle for supremacy on the cricket field; it’s also a crucial platform for talent scouting. Cricket Uganda employs this week-long event to identify and select players who will go on to represent Uganda in various age categories in the national teams.
