LUUKA: Police in Luuka district are investigating the alleged double murder of a seven-year-old juvenile and his father identified as Brian Wotala.
It is alleged that Wotala, 38, a resident of Budana A village Bukooma sub-county in Luuka district beat his seven-year-old son to death over issues yet to be established.
On learning about the incident, an irate mob hunted for Wotala and found him hiding at his mother’s place. They pounced on him and hacked him to death.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the juvenile has been staying with the grandmother after Wotala divorced his wife, mother to the deceased juvenile.
Former Luuka district speaker Baker Luwano said there is need for serious community policing in the district to curb murder cases which have become rampant in the recent past.
“Murder cases are becoming rampant and more particularly in the sub-counties of Bukooma and Ikumbya . Actually if you did visit the police station statistics available may prove me right,” Luwano said.
A resident who preferred anonymity said it was not the first time Wotala was assaulting his son, adding that he had made it a habit to assault his son to a point of disabling him.
“Wotala has been battering his son and even broke his leg,” he said.
A team of detectives visited the scene and found blood-stained hoes, hoe handles, sticks and other exhibits.
Busoga North Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha in an interview with this webside confirmed the sad development, adding that the bodies have been taken to Kiyunga Health Centre for postmortem.
