The residents of Luuka district have been rocked by recent tragedies, but amidst the grief, there is a resolute determination to seek justice for the fallen and restore peace to the community.
The tragic death of Babra Namulembo, the parish chief of Nawampiti Sub County, sent shockwaves through Luuka town council. Babra, alongside her husband Christopher Kitawu, was senselessly shot at their home in Lwanda village on March 3rd, 2024. Despite valiant efforts, Babra succumbed to her injuries the following day at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala. The incident has left the community reeling, seeking answers and accountability for this heinous act.
Adding to the community’s anguish, an aggravated robbery unfolded in Bugoba village just days prior, where Moses Lwokyaza and his father Kudaga Francis were attacked, and a staggering 98 million Uganda Shillings was stolen. These events have underscored the pressing need for enhanced security measures and swift action against criminal elements in the region.
In the wake of these tragedies, Luuka District Police Commander SP Nditta Nasibu addressed mourners at Babra Namulembo’s funeral, offering reassurance and hope. SP Nditta Nasibu assured the grieving community that the perpetrators would face justice, citing promising leads from the ongoing investigations. The identification of the firearms used in Babra’s murder marks a significant breakthrough in the case, bolstering confidence in law enforcement’s ability to apprehend the culprits.
Echoing the sentiments of SP Nditta Nasibu, Luuka District RDC Ronald Katende admonished village chairpersons for their apparent neglect of security issues. RDC Katende emphasized the vital role of local leadership in addressing security concerns and urged for a renewed focus on community safety and development initiatives.
Amidst the calls for justice and accountability, Luuka North MP Hon. Luke Kyobe Inhensiko sounded a clarion call for unity and vigilance. Highlighting the prevalence of firearms and violence in Uganda, Hon. Kyobe urged citizens to stand together in solidarity with security forces to combat criminality and uphold the rule of law.
Woman MP Hon. Esther Mbayo joined the chorus of condemnation against the perpetrators of these senseless acts. She called upon all stakeholders in Luuka to collaborate with law enforcement agencies, stressing the importance of collective action in apprehending those responsible and ensuring the safety of all residents.
