In a concerted effort to uplift the Busoga Sub Region and combat poverty within its communities, the Busoga Consortium, under the leadership of Director General Anthony Mula, has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative known as the Village Model (VAM). This transformative project aims to spearhead holistic development across Busoga, marking a pivotal step towards sustainable progress and prosperity.

The inauguration of the VAM system commenced in Luuka district, where district chairpersons from all corners of Busoga, including Kamuli, Buyende, Kaliro, Namutumba, Bugiri, Namayingo, Bugweri, Iganga, Mayuge, Jinja, and Jinja City, convened at the Luuka district headquarters to embark on this monumental endeavor.

Addressing stakeholders at a gathering held at the office of the Luuka Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Busoga Consortium Director General Anthony Mula outlined the blueprint for the VAM initiative, highlighting its core objective of establishing model villages as beacons of development and progress for surrounding communities.

In an exclusive interview with our correspondent, Umar Ntogona, Wakaze Simon, Governor of the Busoga Consortium for Development and Chairperson of Luuka district, emphasized the pivotal role of the VAM in catalyzing agricultural growth and overall development within the Busoga Sub Region.

Drawing inspiration from a recent visit to China by Busoga leaders, where they witnessed firsthand the nation’s remarkable agricultural development and thriving market economy, Wakaze underscored the significance of integrating lessons learned from China into Busoga’s development agenda.

Wakaze further emphasized that the VAM initiative is poised to alleviate hunger and poverty by empowering communities to cultivate income-generating crops that also serve as vital food sources. Each village will receive tailored support and resources to cultivate crops conducive to their local environment, fostering self-sufficiency and economic resilience.

In his call to action, Wakaze urged the residents of Luuka to rally behind the initiative, emphasizing the collective effort required to propel the district and the broader Busoga Sub Region towards a future characterized by prosperity and sustainable development.
