On June 7th, 530 students graduated from the Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals in Busei village, Nakalama sub-county, Iganga district.
The students received certificates in Nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory Techniques, and Pharmacy. Some also earned diplomas in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Medicine and Community Health, Pharmacy, Nursing Extension, and Midwifery Extension.
The graduation ceremony was led by the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, who is also the Chancellor of the institute. He was welcomed by Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, along with the first deputy Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega, who is also the Executive Director and owner of the institute, and the second deputy Prime Minister, Al-Haji Osman Ahmed Noor.
Upon arrival, the Kyabazinga inaugurated the impressive new Gabula block, also known as the Gabula Pentagon, and a new school bus. He then proceeded to the graduation ceremony.
A parade organized by the institute’s management, led by a band, marched from the administration block to the venue as the Kyabazinga waved to students, parents, and guests.
In his speech, the Kyabazinga praised the government for its focus on science education and said that the institute would be crucial in establishing a university in the region in the future. He also thanked Prof. Dr. Lubega for founding the institute and contributing to education in the Busoga sub-region and Uganda.
The Kyabazinga highlighted the good partnership between the institute and the Busoga Kingdom, which provides scholarships to children in the region.
Dr. Joseph Muvawala urged the graduates to treat patients kindly in their future workplaces. He also thanked Prof. Lubega for offering scholarships to the Busoga Kingdom every year.
Prof. Lubega promised to continue producing skilled and disciplined health workers. He asked the Kyabazinga to remind President Yoweri Museveni of his promise to support the institute with 1.8 billion shillings for the construction of the Gabula Block.
The event was attended by the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje, the Isabalangira of Busoga Samuel Zirabamuzale Menhya, royal chiefs, ministers of the Busoga Kingdom, officials from the Ministry of Education, religious leaders, and Members of Parliament from Busoga, including John Teira, Luke Kyobe Inensiko, and Racheal Magoola.
