Iganga: In an enterprising move to protect and preserve the environment, the Busoga Environment Rescue Mission has been launched. During an ideation meeting organised at Family Concept in Iganga town on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, strategies were brainstormed and drawn for the effectiveness of the important movement.

Leaders from diverse backgrounds including student leaders, civil society organization (CSO) leaders, religious youth leaders, political aspirants, and graphics and online marketing leaders across the Busoga subregion are positive about the constructive initiative aiming to promote a conducive landscape of the Kyabazinga community.

Mr Mohamed Mukalu, one of the members leading the group, elaborates its relevance, emphasizing that several trees shall be planted in Iganga municipality and around the enormous districts that make up Busoga.

“The objective of this cause is to inspire collective action in response to environmental challenges affecting the region,” Mr Mukalu.

The group aims to mobilize over 1000 youth leaders in spearheading the planting of 10 trees each, totalling 10,000 seedlings planted in Iganga and beyond. Coordination to mobilize, source, and scout areas suitable for planting and protecting the seedlings are underway, according to him.

Mr Mukalu stresses that a tracking system where each youth leader reports on the trees planted and protected shall be established and implemented to ensure accountability and prevent wastage of seedlings.

“We shall develop a business model to showcase products derived from the environment that can generate income for the youth participants. We decided that a detailed project concept would be developed in a follow-up meeting scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024,” he said.

The determined group invites female leaders to be at the forefront of addressing environmental issues. They emphasized the importance of collective leadership in embracing environmental preservation, which benefits everyone.
