Godfather of comedy: Muyonjo Hussein aka Swengere is an astute radio presenter, renown
comedian and businessman. Swengere suits the description of the godfather
of comedy in Busoga sub-region. In an exclusive interview with our reporter
Fahard Kinene, the 37-year-old resident of Mafubira, in Jinja city discussed a
number of issues ranging from education, entertainment and politics. Below
are the excerpts.
As a renown radio presenter and comedian, what really inspired you to go
back to school?
Well I am in love with education and going back to school has always been my
plan. My education journey began at Wakitaka Primary School through Mpumude
Estate Primary School to Mafubira Primary School from where I completed my
primary education. I proceeded to Superior College for Senior One and Two before
joining Mpumudde High School from where I completed my O’ level.
I excelled at O’level and joined A’ level but dropped out of school in the second
term of my Senior Five for lack of school fees. This has always haunted me and it
is the reason why I went back to school. It was the major motivation. I had dropped
out of school because of lack of money and now that I have some money, I
resolved to go back and study.
Rumour has it that you are going to contest in the forthcoming 2026 elections.
What made you take such a decision?
I have always been a leader. From my childhood, school life, my home and at work
places, I have been a leader. I, therefore, felt that it is important for me to take my
good leadership to the community and it is the reason why I am joining elective
politics. Besides, I have been using the favour and trust I have from people to send
others to positions of leadership but they have disappointed me and the masses. I
now want to do it myself.
Swengere Experience Season Three is knocking, what should people expect?
People should expect the best because we have acquired enough experience as far
as entertaining people is concerned. We have been doing this for the last nine years
and we can rightly be called seniors. So on May 13, expect the best from Swengere
Family.
The challenge we encountered of changing the venue from TransAfrica to Jinja SS
playground is just a small pebble. It is actually a chance in disguise. I can reliably
inform our fans out there that we are well prepared and feel free to come along
with your family. Let the parents move with their children because we a proper set
up for the children as well.
As a prosperous youth, what can you teach the other fell youth who are
aspiring to be like you?
This goes to everyone, not only youths. People should be honest to themselves and
to everyone. Doing what they are supposed to do at the right time, being patient
and fronting Allah in whatever they do. Once they do that, they will be able to
achieve everything they want in life.
