Police in Jinja district are investigating the circumstances under which, Denis Avaga, 27, an askari guarding Madhvani sugarcane plantations, was killed by an individual suspected to be a lover of his wife. A resident of Mawoito A village, Kakira Town Council, Jinja district, Agava on February 20, 2024 returned from work at around 10pm and purportedly overheard his wife screaming above her voice in the room, which prompted him to kick the door hard to gain entry, and got his wife having sex with another man.

Completely naked on his bed, the shameless wife identified as Agnes Agidru and her lover Raphael Onzima were allegedly attacked by the house owner, where a serious fight immediately erupted between the two men.

The prime suspect, Onzima, reportedly picked up a knife and stabbed Avaga (owner of the wife) in the chest, stomach, and arm. The deep stabbing led to serious bleeding, and Denis Avaga succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to Madhvani hospital for medical attention and treatment.

Onzima, a 26-year-old sugarcane cutter working with Kakira sugar limited and resident of Mutai camp in Kakira Town Council, ran for his dear life naked from the scene of crime up to Kakira Central Police Station. While the trouble causer woman, 32-year-old causal labourer also working with Kakira sugar limited, took off without any cloth to a sugarcane plantation in Wanyange, about a kilometre from the crime scene.

“Agnes Agidru ran for her dear life naked from the scene of crime up to Wanyange in Kakira Town Council and hide herself in the sugarcane plantation, police pursued and arrested her,” said James Mubi, the Kiira region police publicist.

According to police, five people have been arrested to help in the investigations. These include prime suspect Raphael Onzima, Agnes Agidru, Geoffrey Echoku, 42-year-old neighbour who was cheering the two men to fight, Peter Ocheng, 52, landlord and Pamela Ocheng the Landlord’s wife.

The landlord is accused of failing to report the matter to authorities aiding the alleged killer with knife which ended the life of a person. It is alleged that Pamela thoroughly cleaned the blood at the scene of crime and contaminated the scene.

“Exhibits of evidential value has been retrieved from the scene for instance Onzima’s pant, shirt, cap and bedsheets plus clothes for the woman trouble causer,” Mubi added.

Preliminary report indicates that Raphael Onzima and Agnes Agidru have been moving around bars in Kakira Town Council holding hands and kissing in public and paying no attention to the owner of the wife.
