HRH Willington Nabwana, the Tabingwa of Luuka chiefdom, has issued a stern warning to members of the Luuka Lukiko, cautioning them against involvement in political affairs. Speaking at the opening of the Luuka Lukiko on February 15th, 2024, HRH Nabwana emphasized the importance of upholding the cultural and traditional values of the Luuka people, urging leaders to prioritize unity and cultural preservation.

The Luuka Lukiko, whose members were sworn in on October 7th, 2023, officially commenced their duties under the guidance of HRH Nabwana, in accordance with the constitution of the Luuka chiefdom. As per tradition, HRH Nabwana, as the Tabingwa, was designated to inaugurate the first meeting of the Lukiko.

During his address, HRH Nabwana cautioned against any attempts by Lukiko members to engage in political activities. He made it clear that anyone intending to pursue political endeavors should resign from their positions within the chiefdom. Furthermore, HRH Nabwana asserted that any individual failing to adhere to this directive would be prohibited from involving the Tabingwa in political matters.

In addition to discouraging political involvement, HRH Nabwana urged Lukiko members to prioritize the education of Luuka youth, emphasizing the importance of imparting cultural and traditional knowledge in schools. He encouraged leaders to unite the Luuka community and promote the values passed down from their ancestors.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Luuka district commended HRH Nabwana for his collaboration with the government in addressing poverty. However, the RDC expressed concern over the neglect of parental responsibility, attributing it to the deterioration of moral values among the youth. The RDC highlighted the government’s efforts in infrastructure development and poverty alleviation initiatives, such as road rehabilitation and the disbursement of funds to uplift the community.

In response to the call for development, the Speaker of Luuka Lukiko, Counsel David Balondemu, announced plans to establish a smart village in Luuka. He emphasized agriculture as a key avenue for economic empowerment, urging Lukiko members to invest in agricultural initiatives to uplift the community and combat poverty effectively.
