Jinja: In an exclusive interview, Pastor Senyonjo Okurut, an esteemed figure at the Acacia Community Church in Kimaka Jinja Lubaga and a theology teacher at Uganda Baptist Seminary, shares his views on homosexuality. He emphasizes the need to address homosexuality not only as a public concern but also as a biblical concern. While condemning the act, Pastor Senyonjo advocates for love and understanding towards individuals involved in same-sex relationships. He draws upon biblical references and calls for preaching sound doctrine to bring about a change of heart and mind.

Pastor Senyonjo highlights the biblical perspective on homosexuality. He explains that homosexuality should be considered a sin, just like other transgressions against God’s word. He references the creation story in Genesis and emphasizes God’s original plan for marriage to be between a man and a woman. Drawing from biblical passages, Pastor Senyonjo argues that engaging in same-sex relationships goes against God’s intended order.

He clarifies his stance by stating that he condemns the act of homosexuality as a sin but not the individuals involved. He points out that the Bible consistently portrays homosexuality as a sin, citing examples from the Old Testament, such as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. He also references New Testament verses that mention homosexuality as an obstacle to inheriting the kingdom of God. However, he urges compassion and offers the message of redemption through God’s love and the sacrifice of His son.

Pastor Senyonjo expresses concern about the public acceptance and promotion of homosexuality, which he views as a distortion of truth. He references a passage from Romans, highlighting the moral decline and the consequences associated with suppressing the truth. He warns against idolatry and asserts that blaspheming God’s name invites His wrath. The pastor advocates for upholding the truth and emphasizes the importance of preaching sound doctrine.

Pastor Senyonjo argues that addressing homosexuality requires a transformation of the heart and mind. He emphasizes the power of scripture to convict individuals and lead them towards righteousness. He calls for preaching and teaching sound doctrine with love and emphasizes the need for discipleship. The pastor refutes claims that homosexuality is a cultural issue, asserting that sin is universal and not limited to any particular culture.

Pastor Senyonjo stresses the significance of truth in combating falsehoods surrounding homosexuality. He encourages individuals not to give up on preaching the truth and remaining faithful to it. He cites biblical verses that reinforce the liberating power of truth in Jesus Christ. The pastor reminds readers that worldly pursuits like money and status are temporary, while the word of God endures.
