Luuka District: Today, Tuesday marked a significant step in the distribution of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds in Luuka district as fifty-three individuals from Kiyunga ward in Luuka town council were flagged off to receive their respective allocations from the bank. The event, held at the Luuka district headquarters, saw the beneficiaries each receive 1 million Ugandan shillings, contributing to a growing number of individuals benefitting from the PDM program.

With this new batch of beneficiaries, the PDM initiative in Luuka district has expanded to encompass a total of 1469 individuals hailing from 26 parishes. This development follows the earlier allocation to 1416 beneficiaries, marking a remarkable contribution to the financial well-being of various communities in the district.

Present at the ceremony were officials from Luuka district and Luuka town council, including Luuka District Chairman Simon Wakaze. Chairman Wakaze, addressing the attendees, expressed his gratitude to witness the distribution of PDM funds, emphasizing the positive impact it would have on the beneficiaries’ lives. He extended his appreciation to the individuals who patiently waited for this opportunity and thanked them for their resilience.

Luuka RDC Samuel Musiho took the opportunity to underscore the responsibility that comes with receiving the funds. He urged beneficiaries not to perceive the funds as exclusive to them, but rather a contribution to their households. Musiho stressed that the responsibility of repaying the funds falls on the family if the recipient passes away, highlighting the communal nature of the endeavor.

Deputy RDC Waiswa Paul Bwenibwamwiko added a dimension of community values to his remarks. Expressing concern over the apparent lack of camaraderie in the community, Bwenibwamwiko urged recipients to use the funds wisely, promoting unity within their families instead of discord.

Richard Odoch Promoi, Luuka Deputy CAO, reinforced the importance of using the funds prudently. He cautioned recipients against deviating from the intended use of the money, reminding them that any misuse could lead to legal consequences.

While the event was a cause for celebration, a group of eleven individuals were not part of this phase due to errors in their details. The RDC ordered necessary corrections to ensure their inclusion in the upcoming phase of disbursement. Speaking to one of the affected individuals, Bakaki Salim, he encouraged patience and highlighted the importance of prudent use of the funds once received.

Luuka District has been proactive in ensuring the effective distribution of PDM funds, even amidst challenges. With 25 parishes already benefiting from the initiative, the commitment to supporting the district’s development continues to be a driving force.

Luuka District Speaker Bikumbi Ronald commended the district officials for their dedication to ensuring successful fund distribution. He echoed the call for patience among beneficiaries, while also urging those who are yet to fulfill the necessary requirements to expedite their actions, especially as the rainy season approaches.

As the distribution of PDM funds progresses, Luuka District remains dedicated to improving the financial landscape of its communities, fostering unity, and encouraging responsible financial management among its residents.
