    OBB distributes hoes to chiefdoms for food security

    BUGEMBE — The ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga (OBB) has today launched the distribution of 15,000 hoes to all the 11 chiefdoms that make up Busoga to enhance food security in Busoga Sub Region.

    The launch for distribution of the hoes was done by OBB’s first deputy Katuukiro Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira on May 24th, at the Kingdom headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja City.

    OBB also distributed seeds that included Cabbages, Tomatoes and Dodo to enable people grow vegetables.

    The hoes were a donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to OBB which has also embarked on distribution to various chiefdoms starting with Bugabula and Bulamogi.

    Bugabula chiefdom got 3000 hoes and were received by OBB’s Minister of State for Agriculture Owek. Matia Wakalali well-as Bulamogi received 1000 hoes which were received by Paul Bwana Nantamu from Kaliro. Prof. Dr. Lubega officially handed over the hoes to them.

    Prof. Dr. Lubega also handed over other hoes to various interests groups in the Kingdom which included Kyabazinga Voluntary Group, Busoga Kwisania, Busoga Bulaale and to Royal Guards.

    ‘Enhancing mindset’

    In his message delivered by Prof. Dr. Lubega, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Nadiope, said the hoes are for enhancing the mindset of the people but secondaly to help Busoga to start the operation of making sure that people improve on their food security.

    He urged people to root more into cash crops and foods and also reduce on sugarcane growing which takes a lot of land and a bigger period to mature.

    He said the hoes have been evenly distributed and they will make sure that they reach to the Wanainchi to use them to improve their incomes and transform themselves.

    Bugabula received 3000 hoes, Bulamogi 1000, Busiki 1300, Bugweri 1000, Bukono 900, Kigulu 1000, Bukoli 1300, Buna 1000, Bunole-Bunanumba 1200, Luuka 1300 and Butembe 1500.

    The Minister of General Duties in the office of the Katuukiro of Busoga Edward Munaaba pledged to monitor the distribution of the hoes to different chiefdoms.

    He was appreciative about the initiative of ObwaKyabazinga Bwa Busoga and the donation will make them lead by example and motivate the people they lead.

    Present at the launch was the PA to the Kyabazinga John Kairu and other Kingdom officials.
