A mob in Jinja city has lynched a suspected thief suspected to be part of the gang terrorizing Jinja city residents.

It is believed that the gang jumped over a perimeter wall and entered the compound of one of the residents at School Lane in the wee hours of Monday morning.

They were, however, intercepted and one of them was stoned to death by an irate mob. The rest of the gang managed to escape and are still on the run.

By press time, police had arrived at the scene to take the body to the mortuary.

Jinja city has in the recent past suffered a spate of robberies with Mafubira, Mailo Mbili and Wanyama, among others, cited as the most affected areas.

    Details to follow.
