Police in Kampala are hunting for armed robbers who hacked an 11-year-old Primary Four pupil at Kitante Primary School Aron Walligo to death and fled with money worth Shs800,000.

The deceased was a resident of Nakulabye Zone 7, Rubaga Division in Kampala city.

It is alleged that Walligo was at home when panga wielding robbers came to break into a neighbour’s house. The deceased saw and attempted to make an alarm, much to the dismay of the armed robbers.

The robbers followed him to a neighbour’s house and hit him on the head, cut his neck before robbing money worth Shs800,000.

As Irene Kalungi, a neighbour who had gone to pick her children from school, returned home, she heard someone gasping for breath and upon checking the house, she found the deceased lying in a pool of blood.

She attempted to save his life by wrapping a piece of cloth around his head and neck to stop the bleeding before rushing him to Rubaga hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police spokesperson, said a team of police officers was dispatched the crime scene and relevant statements have been taken.

“We are appealing to the community to be vigilant even during day time as criminals can always take advantage of a lapse in the community security wherever they see an opportunity,” Owoyesigyire said.

The deceased’s body has been taken to the city mortuary Mulago for postmortem as investigations and the hunt for suspects continues.
