Rugby Cranes Head Coach Fred Mudoola has named two Jinja-based players among the 28 that will represent Uganda in the Rugby Africa Cup in France.
The list seen by this website has Jinja Hippos players Jacob Ochen and Emong Eliphaz named among the 28 travelling to France for the Rugby Africa Cup tournament. They are the only players selected outside Kampala.
The tournament that will take place in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence in France will kick off on July, 1st and will be concluded on July 10th.
A total of eight African teams are participating in this tournament. They include Algeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Senegal and Zimbabwe.
The tournament doubles as a qualifier for the Rugby World Cup 2023 that will be played in France. One team will qualify directly and will be seeded in Group A of the global showpiece against France, New Zealand, Italy and the top qualifying team from America.
The Jinja Hippos Rugby Club started with street children/homeless school drop-outs. The selection is therefore a huge milestone for the club and Jinja city.
