Jinja: In a move aimed at ensuring justice is served, the Kiira regional police command has launched a prosecution-guided investigation into the horrific murder and sexual assault of Caroline Nziiro, a resident of Mpumudde in Jinja City.

The lifeless body of Nziiro, a local salon operator in Jinja City, was discovered on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in a trench near Mialo Mbili by residents who promptly alerted the authorities.

A team of experienced detectives and technical staff visited the crime scene, collecting statements from eyewitnesses, retrieving evidence, and examining the body.

Although no visible signs of bruising were found, preliminary investigations suggest that Nziiro was repeatedly sexually assaulted and murdered between January 27 and 28, according to SP James Mubi, the spokesperson for the Kiira regional police.

“An experienced team of detectives handling homicide cases, along with other technical staff, visited the crime scene, recorded relevant statements from eyewitnesses, retrieved evidence, and examined the body. No visible signs of bruising were observed,” Mr. Mubi said.

The police are now appealing to the public for any information that may lead to the apprehension of the perpetrator(s). Mubi assures the public that maximum confidentiality will be afforded to anyone who comes forward with information.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing need for community awareness campaigns to prevent violent crimes against women and children.

Last year, such campaigns led to a measurable reduction in these types of crimes, and the police intend to continue and intensify these efforts in schools, markets, churches, mosques, and on social media.

Mubi told Busoga Today that, “Violent crimes against women and children were measurably reduced last year due to sustained joint community awareness campaigns that focused on instilling good lifelong societal values and advocating for responsible parenthood at the very lowest level of administration [family]. These joint efforts continue to register a positive impact in society.”

According to Mr. Mubi, the Kiira regional police command, led by SSP Charles Nsaba, will not rest until the suspect(s) in Nziiro’s murder are apprehended and justice is served to the bereaved family, friends, and residents of Jinja City.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Jinja Main Hospital for a postmortem.
