Wanderers and Rounders clashed in a much anticipated final at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Sunday afternoon, with silverware on the line. Wanderers emerged winners as they ended an 11-year wait for a trophy with a narrow 3-wicket win in a low-scoring affair.
Wanderers chose to bat first, with openers Wasim Butt (10) and Didier Ndikwibimana (27) laying a solid foundation. Contributions from Abu Seguya (19) and Amanpreet Singh (11) helped boost their total before a series of quick wickets fell. Rounders’ Narinder Singh and David Mwesigwa took control, each claiming 3 wickets, while Sohera Richard added two more. Wanderers were bowled out for 99 runs in 17.2 overs.
In response, Rounders started well, with Irishad Suleman and Zulu Walaza building an 11-run partnership. However, the middle order crumbled under pressure as Wanderers’ Martin Akayezu and Magwa Arthur dominated the bowling, picking up 5 and 3 wickets, respectively. Narinder Singh and Sohera Richard fought back with 14 runs each, but Rounders fell just short, bowled out for 96 in 16.5 overs.
The victory means that Wanderers have ended their long trophy-less streak
