Wanderers and Rounders set for emotional rematch with more than points on the line

Wanderers and Rounders Cricket Clubs meet again this weekend in a clash that runs deeper than league standings. Match Day 8 of the Men’s National 50 Over League brings together two sides bound by history and divided by heartbreak.

Their rivalry grew stronger during the 2024 T20 Cup final when Wanderers won by just three runs. Defending a small total of 99, Wanderers managed to get Rounders all out for 96. It was a close and exciting finish that surprised everyone and left Rounders feeling disappointed.

This Saturday, the rematch comes in a longer format and with changed fortunes. Wanderers, despite being the reigning T20 champions, have struggled to carry their momentum into the 50-over league. They’re winless, bottom of the table, and battling squad issues. In their most recent outing, they fielded just less players against Ceylon Lions and lost by 66 runs in Kamengo. The absence of key players has weakened their spine.

But this weekend gives them something to rally around. A win here would quiet the noise, boost their confidence, and remind everyone they’re still the reigning T20 champions.

Rounders, meanwhile, are adjusting well to life in the top flight after earning promotion. With two wins in five games, they sit mid-table and have shown resilience in tight contests. Their motivation this week is clear: right the wrongs of last year’s final and prove they now belong among Uganda’s elite.
