    • USA 110/5 in 20 overs
    • Uganda 111/2 in 18.2 overs
    • Uganda won by 8 wickets

In a match at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the Victoria Pearls secured their first victory in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, powered by an exceptional performance from Immaculate Nakisuuyi.

The match began with the USA winning the toss and opting to bat first. Despite a steady start from opener Disha Dhingra, Uganda’s bowlers, led by Sarah Walaza and Sarah Akiteng, struck early, taking crucial wickets to regain momentum. A resilient effort from the USA’s middle order, including a notable partnership between captain Sindhu Sriharsha and Ritu Singh, propelled them to a competitive total of 110 with a loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Uganda’s chase got off to a rocky start, losing key wickets early on. However, Nakisuuyi and Stephani Nampiina stepped up to the challenge, forming a remarkable partnership that turned the tide in Uganda’s favor. Nakisuuyi’s composed innings, which included her second T20I half-century, and Nampiina’s valuable contribution (33 off 27 balls) guided Uganda to victory with 10 balls to spare.

Nakisuuyi’s unbeaten 68* off 64 balls earned her the well-deserved Player of the Match award, highlighting her crucial role in Uganda’s win. Despite early setbacks, Uganda showcased resilience and determination to claim an 8-wicket win over USA.

This win marks only the second win for Uganda at this level of competition, a significant achievement for the team. It not only keeps their hopes alive in the tournament.

Looking ahead, Uganda will aim to carry forward this momentum as they face Thailand in their next fixture on Monday.
