In a thrilling encounter at Bombo Barracks Ground, UPDF FC secured a commanding 2-0 victory, ending BUL FC’s unbeaten start to the season in the Uganda Premier League. The rain-soaked pitch added to the intensity of the match, where UPDF’s Bernard Muwanga converted a penalty in the 6th minute, and Sam Kintu’s phenomenal long-range strike in the 54th minute sealed the win.
The match took a dramatic turn when BUL FC’s Head Coach, Abbey Bogere Kikomeko, received a red card for disputing a referee’s decision, heightening the spectacle. The defeat marked the end of BUL FC’s impressive winning streak this season, having triumphed in all six opening matches before this clash.
Muwanga’s early penalty was a result of Walter Ochora’s handball, initiated by Robert Eseru’s header off Tebandeke Christopher’s long throw. Kintu’s exceptional goal capitalized on a deflected ball, leaving BUL FC’s Tom Ikara helpless in the 54th minute.
The heavy rainfall posed challenges for both teams, affecting possession and control. UPDF FC’s victory follows their previous win against Busoga United with an identical scoreline, propelling them to 9th place with 8 points. BUL FC maintains its league-leading position with 18 points from seven matches.
Looking ahead, UPDF FC is set to face Arua Hill on Friday, 24th, at the Paridi Ground, while BUL FC will host Kitara FC on Sunday, 26th, at the FUFA Technical Centre Njeru.
