Iganga: Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health professionals on Saturday embarked on the celebrations over the success of the medical candidates who excelled in the 2023 Uganda Nurses and Midwives Examinations Board (UNMEB).
In the recently released results, at least 97 per cent of candidates at Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals shined with flying colours after a total of 1163 students sat for the promotional and final examinations. The finalists, continuing students, and others were pursuing diploma courses.
According to Benard Hanaba, the principal of the vibrant medical institution, 109 candidates sat for nursing examination, and a total of 107 excelled highly. The figure represents a 98 percentage while eighteen students registered for midwifery and also passed well.
Hanaba stated that out of the 1163 students who sat for the examinations, 1128 successfully made it, which represents a percentage of ninty seven.
“We had 107 nurses passing out of 109 and 16 midwives passed out of the 18 who sat. Our overall percentage pass stands at 97% because 1163 sat exams and 1128 passed. We appreciate God for the wisdom granted to us and also thank our dear director and parents for supporting us always,” Mr. Hanaba said during a thanksgiving event oraganized at the school on Saturday.
The thanksgiving ceremony was presided over by the Hijja coordinator in Busoga Sheikh Abudallah Yusuf Mayaye, who commended the school, administrators, and students for showcasing significant knowledge in the health sector. Students first matched around the streets of Busei in Iganga district, where the school is located before converging in a hall for celebrations.
The proprietor of the institute Prof. Dr Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, elaborated the need for hard work by students and emphasised the importance of believing in God the creator.
Lubega, who also doubles the chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Spreme Council (UMSC), called on students to effectively and purposely utilize their time time in school to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for their future
“I want to congratulate you upon the good performance in last year’s examinations. I want to call upon you to work harder, do not sit and relax, and I also want to add my voice that for those who haven’t performed well. It is not that you didn’t know, but maybe something went wrong,” he said.
He added that; “For us in Islam, one of the pillars of faith is accepting Allah’s decisions about us but inshallah you will pass.”
The principal Lubega Institute of Nursing and Medical Sciences (LINMS) Mr. Hanaba Benard says they registered 1163 candidates for exams of December last year. He said 109 finalists sat for nursing exams, and 107 passed representing 98% while the two have a retake in one paper as well as 18 for midwifery and 16 passed.
The celebrations attracted a sports gala where the school inter-houses, including Nakisige, Mwiru, Luwangula, and Otana, participated in several games such as football, netball, volleyball and rope pulling.
In the final competitions, Nakisige house won 1-0 against Mwiru in football and volleyball while Luwangula shined in the netball. The winner on top of a trophy got a bull and medals while the rest received cash and other prizes.
Peter Magomu undertaking the sports department at the school said it is healthy for one to participate in sports, explaining that the health institute encourages co-curricular activities to ensure physical and mental well-being of students.
