In a significant effort to alleviate water scarcity challenges affecting schools in Uganda, the Rotary Club of Jinja played a pivotal role in commissioning a new water source at Naigobya Primary School in Bukooma Sub County, Luuka district. The event, attended by Luuka North Constituency MP Hon. Luke Kyobe Inhensiko, shed light on the severe impact of water shortage on academic performance in the region.

Hon. Luke Kyobe, the chief guest, emphasized the profound connection between the absence of clean water and the decline in education standards, citing instances of illness, including diseases like typhoid, caused by water pollution. He expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Jinja for their commitment to addressing this critical issue and urged the community to safeguard the newly commissioned water source.

During the ceremony, Faustine Ngarambe, representing the President of Rotary Club Jinja, highlighted the club’s dedication to prioritizing water-related initiatives, recognizing the fundamental importance of water in sustaining life. The Rotary Club of Jinja’s focus on water projects aligns with their broader mission to contribute to community development.

Dr. Geoffrey Segonga, instrumental in spearheading the water source project at Naigobya Primary School, shared personal memories of the challenges faced during his primary education at Naigobya. He recalled the difficulties students encountered while fetching water, emphasizing the transformative impact the new water source could have on the current generation of learners.

Addressing the gathering, the school’s headmaster, Kalulu Kirunda, outlined various challenges facing Naigobya Primary School, including accommodation for teachers, parental support for students’ needs, the lack of a school main hall, an appropriate staff room, and storage facilities. Despite these challenges, the commissioning of the water source marked a positive step forward for the school.

Bukooma Sub County LC III Chairman, Ngobi Benoni Tibakula, expressed gratitude to the Rotary Club of Jinja for their contributions to community development in the sub-county. He encouraged the community to make optimal use of the provided water resource, recognizing its significance in promoting health and education in the region.
