Residents of Bukooma Sub-County in Luuka District are filled with gratitude and optimism as road rehabilitation efforts in their area bring much-needed improvements to local infrastructure.

The initiative is spearheaded by Hon. Nabirye Annet, an aspiring Woman MP for Luuka District, who has launched a district-wide campaign to rehabilitate roads across each sub-county.

Having successfully restored roads in Bulanga Town Council, Waibuga Sub-County, Busalamu Town Council, Bukanga Sub-County, Nawampiti Sub-County, Irongo Sub-County, Kyanvuma Town Council, Bulongo Sub-County, and Luuka Town Council, Hon. Nabirye Annet has now turned her focus to Bukooma Sub-County.

According to Ngobi Benoni Tibakula, the Chairman of Bukooma Sub-County LC III, the sub-county received road funding from the government, which allowed them to grade several roads, including Ngobi Dhikusoka – Kakoga Trading Centre – Budhana to Buyunze, Muwolo – Bukyangwa P/S to Palisa Trading Centre, Balyabumali – Palisa Trading Centre – Kisegero to Nkolowo Venekenti, Nfuudu – Borehole, Bulalu Corner – Kyeyamwa to Kakula Amuza, and Namulanda to Nawansega. However, despite this, the sub-county still requires road maintenance. As a result, local leaders sought Hon. Nabirye Annet’s assistance in grading the roads to further enhance development, which she agreed to support.

Chairman Tibakula also outlined the roads Hon. Nabirye plans to grade in Bukooma Sub-County, including: Naigobya – Lutheran to Wandago Church, East – Kagoma Badiru Mpubani – Bukyangwa via Richard Mandazi to Mpubani, H/C II – Byefudde Junction – Nairika P/S – Sekuku to Busara to Nairika Primary School, Mutale to Kasumbi, Wilson to Budhabangula, Buyunze – Budhana – Kigwere to Alilyawa, P/S to Waiswa Gabwa via Makikiri, – Misita – Kirimwa to Kidhiki, Bukooma Church of Uganda – Bukose to Bayige, Bukooma – Nawansega to Buyawuka, Misita – Lukwitira to Bugag, Mulondo – Ogoola to Mukama Kirimwa, Musita – Kidhama to Kirimwa B, Eriezer – to Busaku Swamp, Nabimogo Ali – Baita to Nuume Yusufu, P/S – Buwanga – Buganda to Busaku, Musita – Kapapeire – Namansenda T/C – Muyomba – Mulumisi to Bulalu, Kirimwa – Busaku to Bulange, Gwembuzi P/S – Kimpi to Nawanago, Ekwiire to Kabi, Kidiki – Gwembuzi – Namulanda to Nawansega Kiseege, Gwembuzi – Dhikubira to Kidiki Namavundu

These routes, which are essential for connecting communities, have deteriorated significantly, making travel difficult for residents, farmers, and businesses.

Addressing a crowd gathered at Misita Trading Centre in Bukooma Sub-County, Chairman Ngobi Benoni Tibakula expressed his gratitude to Nabirye for her commitment to improving the community’s road network. “The roads were in a very poor state, making it hard for residents to travel, especially during the rainy seasons. Nabirye’s efforts are a major relief to us,” Tibakula said, commending her for her dedication to rural development.

Community members, including Bukooma village chairpersons led by Chairperson LC I Misita, Hassan Karimwigunda, echoed their appreciation, sharing how the poor road conditions had long hindered their daily lives and economic activities. They expressed hope that the ongoing rehabilitation would improve access to essential services, local markets, and nearby towns.

Hon. Annet Nabirye, the chief guest at the launch, thanked the people of Bukooma for the warmth and support they had shown her. She urged them to make use of the rehabilitated roads as a means to escape poverty.

She further assured the people of Luuka that she would continue to advocate for the development of the district and urged them to support her bid for the Woman MP seat to further their collective development.
