Residents of Luuka District are celebrating after new street lights were installed along all the streets in Kiyunga Town.

The street lights were donated by Hon. Annet Nabirye, the aspiring Woman MP for Luuka District. The initiative aims to end the darkness in the district, allowing traders to operate their businesses into the night and improve overall security.

Hon. Nabirye plans to extend the street lighting project across the entire district, with the goal of making Luuka shine. Initially, she donated eight street lights in Kiyunga Town, located within Luuka Town Council, as part of her effort to promote development in the area.

Luuka District has long been plagued by frequent power outages, which prompted Nabirye to step in with the street light donation. The move is seen as a significant step toward addressing both security concerns and development challenges.

The Mayor of Luuka Town Council, Kawuta Akabway, and Team Nabirye coordinator, Henry Muwesi, highlighted the many contributions made by Nabirye to the district, including the rehabilitation of community roads, donation of dryers to salon operators, support for churches and schools, and efforts to unite the people of Luuka. They also noted that these contributions far exceed those of the current Member of Parliament, Hon. Esther Mbayo.

Traders in Luuka, led by their chairperson, Mugweri Minsaki, shared their struggles with nighttime operations, stating that the lack of street lighting had hindered business growth and caused setbacks in the town’s development.

Umar Ntogona, the Assistant RDC of Luuka, who was the chief guest at the street light launch, thanked Hon. Nabirye for the security lights. He urged the people of Luuka, particularly those in Luuka Town Council, to remain vigilant and ensure the lights are well maintained. Ntogona also called on the people of Luuka to support both President H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and leaders like Nabirye Annet, who are working for the betterment of the district.
