The first Deputy Prime Minister and Uganda’s Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, says the youth are the core individuals to take the lead in the common development of the country and the world at large.
Kadaga spoke on Thursday, August 1, 2024, while meeting with youth from the Busoga Kingdom (Obwakyabazinga Bwa Busoga), who paid her a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s offices in the Kingdom Kampala building located on Nile Avenue.
Led by the Kingdom’s State Minister for Youth and ICT, Owekitibwa Veronica Kagona, the youngsters came to promote the Busoga Regional Youth Symposium to the renowned daughter of the soil, Kadaga.
The Busoga youth will gather from August 6 to 12, 2024, at the Kingdom headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja City, for their inaugural Youth Symposium. The event will include several activities conducted by young people in the Kingdom, emphasizing youth participation, promotion of unity, and development in Busoga.
Minister Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli District Woman Member of Parliament, welcomed the ideas and proposals for activities, which include medical camps and blood donation drives, among others. She pledged total support for the event, saying she would also participate in the week-long symposium.
“I am ready to mingle with young people because they are my friends, and I align with their development agenda,” Kadaga stated.
In the first days of the symposium, sexual reproductive health talks among girls and boys will be presided over by experts. Later stages will cover topics such as leadership, entrepreneurship, and climate change.
Youth State Minister Kagona says agribusiness, tourism, sports, and music, among others, will also be included to effectively promote young talents.
Meanwhile, Kadaga had a productive discussion with the Youth Minister on how to better implement sustainable youth projects for development, reaching the ordinary Musoga youth in the subregion.
The former Speaker of Parliament asked the youth to continue promoting and sustaining the “Kisoga” cultural values, morals, and ethics, emphasizing unity ahead of their regional Youth Week, which will climax with international celebrations.
The event, aiming to celebrate International Youth Day, is anticipated to attract the youthful Busoga King, His Majesty William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV, who will rejoice together with his youth subjects, according to Kagona.
The event’s organizing committee, led by Muhammed Mukalu, has since traversed several chiefdoms for activation drives. They visited Kigulu, Bunha, Bunhole Bunanumba, Kaliro, and Luuka chiefdoms to mobilize the youth for the anticipated event.
