Iganga: Dr Kisambira Lubega, the first deputy Prime Minister of Obwakyabazinga bwa Busoga, could not hold back tears as he buried his dear wife, Princess Rebecca Janet Rikabitile Izimba.
The late Rebecca, 35, was daughter to the late Kigulu County Chief, Patrick Izimba Gologolo.
The chief mourner, the Isabalangira of Busoga, Samwiri Nkuutu Menha, representing the Katikiro of Busoga, Owek Joseph Muvawala, called on Basoga to stop bringing flowers to funerals and instead plant trees.
“We should be united as Basoga especially you our people of Kigulu Chiefdom,” he called out,
Kigulu is grappling with two princes claiming the chiefdom seat after the death of Chief Patrick Izimba. HRH Chris Mudoola was elected to be chief by the son to the late, Gideon Izimba Gologolo chopped of part of the Chiefdom and claims to rule over it.
“Sit and reconcile for the good of development in the chiefdom and in the region,” he said.
Counsel Alex Luganda, the kingdom’s Attorney General asked Basoga to avoid disunity and called upon leaders to avoid public outbursts and quarrels especially in the forthcoming political season.
“We should instead promote Busoga instead of pushing for personal interests,” he said and prayed for the Gologolo family to be strong “and believe in God as the owner of each and everything.”
The burial was attended but several dignitaries including politicians from Iganga district.
The late Rebecca died of breast cancer and was survived by two children and a husband.
At time of her death, she was working as the manager Red Cross Society in Iganga District.
