The NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu, arrived in Jinja City this morning, starting his visit with a talk show on Busoga One FM. Expressing his gratitude to the people of Busoga, he emphasized his strong connection to the region by introducing himself as “Ngobi,” a Busoga nickname given to him by the Basoga people.
During his address to the people of Busoga, Kyagulanyi thanked them for their support and urged them to continue their efforts towards the liberation of the nation.
Nakaiza Rita Martha, the former contestant for Mayuge District MP and current NUP card bearer, welcomed Kyagulanyi’s visit, emphasizing its significance to Busoga. She highlighted that Busoga has provided immense support to Kyagulanyi, which he deeply appreciates, and that his frequent visits reflect his commitment to the region. She also noted that the purpose of the visit goes beyond a mere visitation, as there are specific goals to achieve during this time. The visit has generated great interest, not only among security operatives but also in terms of launching and unveiling new members of the NUP party. One notable member who crossed over from the ANTI party, led by General Mugisha Muntu, is former MP for Jinja East, Hon. Mwiru Paul. Additionally, many other new party members from different parts of Busoga are expected to be unveiled during this visit.
Nakaiza emphasized that the aim is to strengthen the party and its presence in Busoga, as there is a surge of interest from various political entities. She mentioned that both the Muhoozi project and the NRM party president have shown interest in Busoga, recognizing that the region has shifted its focus towards the NUP as a vehicle for the nation’s liberation. The poor state of service delivery in the Busoga region, including inadequate roads, hospitals, and schools, is cited by NUP leaders as evidence of the need for change.
Namubya Rebecca, the NUP card bearer for Bugiri District, expressed her happiness regarding the president’s visit, emphasizing that Busoga’s strong support for Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu was evident in his impressive 90% score in the Bugiri district. She highlighted that there is no law that restricts the presidential seat to a single party or individual for generations, urging the people of Busoga and Uganda at large to mobilize for a common cause.
The NUP president is scheduled to hold a general meeting at the NUP headquarters in Jinja, where he will meet with party members and also launch a foot soldiers’ tournament.
