On March 17th, 2024, the NRM party concluded its Yellow Book registration process, marking a significant milestone in Luuka district. Despite the overall smooth proceedings, concerns were raised by political analysts and stakeholders regarding the adequacy of the time allotted for registration.
Led by Secretary General Richard Twodong, NRM stakeholders faced requests for an extension of the registration period. This call stemmed from the observation that many individuals were unable to register due to time constraints, prompting stakeholders to consider the inclusivity of the process.
Waswa Juma Kinyiri, popularly known as ‘Big Man,’ an aspiring MP for Luuka South constituency, emphasized the widespread participation in the registration process. However, he highlighted the time limitations faced by participants, urging the NRM authorities to extend the registration period until the following Sunday.
Similarly, Kibira Dan, vying for the position of MP for Luuka North constituency, echoed Kinyiri’s sentiments. Noting the demand for more time, Dan advocated for a two-week extension to ensure comprehensive participation and prevent anyone from being left out of the Yellow Book registration.
Mariam Mwesigwa, an aspiring Woman MP in Luuka district, corroborated these observations, emphasizing the necessity for an extended registration period. From Nantamali to Bulanga, Mwesigwa witnessed the desire for inclusion among the populace. She emphasized that the five-day registration window proved insufficient, resulting in many individuals being unable to register despite their intent.
