A devastating road accident occurred along the Namayingo-Musita road in Naweibete village, Nsango-Kifuyo parish, Buyinja sub-county, Namayingo district, leaving two people dead and one critically injured.
The accident, which took place on Monday, January 13, 2025, at around 7 a.m., involved a speeding unidentified commuter taxi that collided with a bodaboda motorcycle. The deceased have been identified as Ndaisaba, 38, and Sekate Brown, 32, who were both occupants of the motorcycle.
The third victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently receiving treatment at Victory Private Hospital.
Locals and eyewitnesses blamed the taxi driver for reckless driving, and they also criticized healthcare workers at Buyinja Health Centre IV for their slow response and the apparent absence of staff at the facility. The victims were eventually taken to a private health center, where they were pronounced dead.
“We reached the government health facility where it was almost closed. It was really embarrassing to see this happen,” said an angry bodaboda rider who rushed the casualties for medical attention.
Okol Jonan, the nursing officer at Buyinja Health Centre IV, attributed the challenges faced by the facility to a lack of essential equipment and medical supplies. He appealed to the government to provide the necessary resources in a timely manner.
Mr. Hussein Sebide, Mayor of Namayingo Town Council, condemned the healthcare workers’ poor service and urged the District Health Officer to address the issue of absenteeism among staff members.
He said, “There was mismanagement at the health facility. There was only one medical worker present in the morning, which wasn’t enough, and we lost important lives.”
The local leader stressed the need for intensified health services in the district to handle emergencies that could potentially result in the loss of life.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgent need for improved road safety measures and enhanced healthcare services in the region.
As of press time, traffic police and authorities from the Busoga East regional police had not issued a statement regarding this tragic incident, which claimed two lives.
