The 2024 Boys Schools Cricket Week in Jinja is heating up as teams fight tooth and nail for a spot in the semifinals.

Defending champs Jinja SS are showing they’re not here to mess around. They delivered a powerhouse performance against Aga Khan. Despite a wobbly start, Captain Mulongo Paul and Pius Oloka came to the rescue with some brilliant half-centuries. They powered Jinja SS to a solid 195/6. Aga Khan, on the other hand, was all out for just 64, losing by a whopping 131 runs. Aga Khan’s day went from bad to worse as they narrowly lost to Nyakasura School, effectively dashing their hopes for the semifinals.

Busoga College Mwiri, with its cricketing pedigree, is charging towards the semifinals with two impressive wins. They started their day with an 82-run triumph over Teso College Aloet. Later, Delhi Public School put up a fight, but Gerald Olipa’s half-century guided Mwiri to an 8-wicket victory. Eric Mukisa also made his mark, proving to be a reliable performer in both matches.

In the Plate event, Ntare School and Masaka SS are making a comeback. Ntare School’s bowlers were in top form, skittling out Gulu High School for a paltry 44 runs and cruising to an 89-run win. They kept up the momentum with a 9-wicket victory over St James SS.

Masaka SS also bounced back, sneaking past Soroti SS by 2 wickets in a nail-biter. They carried this momentum into their afternoon match, winning by 3 wickets against St John’s SS Mukono, keeping their Plate semifinal hopes alive.

St Joseph’s College Layibi had a day of highs and lows. They secured a 35-run win over Horizon International but then fell heartbreakingly short, losing to King’s College Budo by just one run.

Horizon International, meanwhile, is still searching for their first win and has struggled against tougher opponents.

As the group stage wraps up on friday morning, Jinja SS and Nyakasura School will clash to decide the group leader, while Busoga College Mwiri eagerly awaits their semifinal opponent.

In the Plate event, Ntare School, Masaka SS, and others are battling it out for a chance to advance further.
