On Saturday, February 15, 2025, the 2nd Edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship came to an exciting close, with cyclists from across Busoga competing in a thrilling 175km race. The race started and ended at Busoga Kingdom Headquarters in Bugembe, Jinja City.

The competition, which aimed to promote cycling talent and tackle teenage pregnancy, was a huge success, attracting 44 participants from all the eleven chiefdoms of Busoga.

The championship featured two categories: Tippa (Gaali Ensoga) and Mountain Sport Bikes. Tifu Luganda from Bukoli chiefdom took top honors in the Tipa category, while John Odoto from Kigulu chiefdom emerged victorious in the Sports category.

The winners received brand-new motorcycles and cash prizes ranging from Shs2 million to Shs500,000.

The MTN Busoga Masaza Cycling Championship is more than just a sporting event – it’s a platform for promoting social change. The competition aims to reduce early pregnancies and early marriages, and to promote cycling as a healthy and empowering activity for young people.

The championship was hailed as a huge success by organizers and participants alike. The event was made possible through a partnership between MTN Uganda and the Busoga Kingdom, and was supported by the Minister of Sports, Owekitiibwa Amin Bbosa.

Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, emphasized the importance of this competition in promoting the Kyabazinga initiative, which aims to reduce early pregnancies and early marriages. He also commended MTN Company for their sponsorship.

MTN Uganda’s Marketing Manager, Dennis Harindimana, expressed delight at the enthusiasm displayed by participants and the unifying spirit of sports. The championship’s organizing committee emphasized discipline and commitment as key to success, urging participants to maintain focus as they prepare for future competitions.

Looking ahead, the 2025 Busoga Cycling Championship is scheduled for September this year, as announced by Nkono Amini Bosa, the Sports Minister in Busoga Kingdom.
