JINJA: In a horrifying incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, police in Jinja are currently detaining Rose Musubika, also known as Musuyi Nabudowa, a 27-year-old woman, for the alleged murder of her own two children. Musubika, who is married to Paul Kagoda, alias Kyagulanyi, 23, is suspected of burying the minors in their family home at Buwagi Budondo in Jinja city’s Northern division.

The victims have been identified as 3-year-old China Nabirye and 6-month-old Claire Switina. The grisly discovery was made by Kagoda, who reported the incident to Budondo police station after finding his children buried in a house where one child’s head had even been severed.

According to reports, Kagoda and his wife are both traditional healers. Kagoda had left home for Bukunja in Buikwe district for undisclosed business two weeks before making the shocking discovery. He was alerted to the distressing situation by his colleague, Gerald Ngono, who managed to establish communication with Musubika, taking the phone to Kagoda’s wife and even speaking to the children as well.

Musubika, who committed the alleged crime and then left for her mother’s home in Ibungu East in Budondo, claims that the minors were sacrificed by the Nalubaale ghost. The police, however, condemned this explanation and suspects that the couple may have been involved in a ritualistic pursuit for wealth. Musubika is now facing murder charges at Jinja Central Police Station. She insists, “The ghost of Nalubaale demanded powerful shrines in Busoga and Uganda where they could get money to lift people out of poverty, instead of relying on the government’s Parish development model.”

SP James Mubi, the Kiira region police spokesperson, has emphasized that investigations have commenced to establish the motive behind the murders. He has further revealed that suspects of such capital offenses are typically taken for medical examinations, and efforts are underway to determine Musubika’s medical status.

Mubi also added, “Police are seeking a court order to exhume the remains of the deceased individuals and take samples and other exhibits to the government analytical laboratory in Wandeya, Kampala.” He noted that phone printouts will be conducted on the father of the children and his friend, Ngono.

Mubi, who announced a crackdown on people with shrines, assured the Budondo community that whoever was involved in this unlawful practice would be apprehended and face legal action. He also urged locals to seek divine blessings and God’s grace for prosperity and stressed the dangers of engaging in harmful sacrifices.

It is essential to note that the most recent child sacrifice successfully prosecuted by Kiira regional police took place on September 30, 2021. During that case, a self-proclaimed pastor of Deliverance and Healing Ministries in Kakira, Jinja district, Joseph Serubiri, was convicted of trafficking and murdering their landlord’s 4-year-old Trinity Nakisuyi Zebella. Pastor Serubiri and his wife, Felista Namaganda, are currently serving their sentences of life imprisonment for murder and 30 years for aggravated child trafficking at Kirinya prison.
