The Minister of Kampala Metropolitan, Hajjati Minsa Kabanda, recently lauded the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) for their exemplary discipline towards civilians, attributing it to the nation’s increased development.

Speaking at the commissioning of two classrooms at Nabikuyi Primary School in Nawampiti Sub County, Luuka district, Minister Kabanda highlighted the significant transformation in the behavior of the UPDF towards civilians. She commended the UPDF’s efforts in building classrooms as part of their contribution to the community, emphasizing the army’s evolution from a past associated with torture to one characterized by discipline and service.

As the UPDF prepares to celebrate its 43rd anniversary, Minister Kabanda’s remarks underscore the profound impact of the military’s engagement in civilian affairs. According to reports, the Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Gen. Wilson Masu Mbadi, conveyed a message urging public support for the army during the upcoming anniversary celebrations. Brig. Gen. Alex Opoloti Olupoti, representing the CDF, reiterated the army’s commitment to collaborating with civilians to foster development.

Wakaze Simon, Chairman LC V in Luuka district, praised the “Tarehe Sita” initiatives, emphasizing their contributions to the region’s progress. He cited examples such as improved cleanliness in towns, construction of hospitals and schools, and provision of healthcare services, highlighting the positive impact of UPDF’s community engagement.

Luuka RDC Katende Ronald echoed these sentiments, enumerating UPDF’s achievements in the district, including healthcare services, infrastructure development, and environmental conservation efforts. He emphasized the collaborative efforts between the UPDF and civilians, citing instances of joint activities such as tree planting and sporting events.

Birinde Paul, Chairman of Nawampiti Sub County, expressed gratitude for the UPDF’s intervention in improving Nabikuyi Primary School’s infrastructure. He thanked both the district leadership and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa for facilitating the collaboration between the army and civilians, underscoring the significance of such partnerships in driving community development.
