In a bid to propel the development of Luuka district, the Luuka monarchy, under the leadership of Tabingwa HRH Willington Nabwana, is set to conduct joint prayers on November 11, 2023. The initiative, spearheaded by the speaker of Luuka Lukiiko, Dr. David Balondemu, who also serves as the chairperson of the Kampala district land board, aims to seek divine blessings for the rapid development of Luuka.
The revival of the Luuka monarchy on October 7, 2023, marked a significant step towards restoring the cultural and traditional heritage that was dismantled six centuries ago. Speaking at a press conference, Prime Minister Owek. Lwigo David Iggulu Isabirye emphasized the importance of the upcoming prayer service, scheduled to take place at Gwembuzi Primary School, Bukooma Sub County. The religious leaders, led by the chairperson of the Luuka district interreligious council and district Kadhi for Luuka Muslim district, Sheikh Ismail Kyeyune, will lead the joint prayers.
Mr. Lwigo invited individuals from all walks of life to join the prayers, expressing gratitude for the successes Luuka has achieved thus far. Notable accomplishments include the ongoing construction of Gwembuzi Hospital, funded by the Rotary Club of Muyenga Tank Hill, led by Dr. Balondemu. Additionally, American friends of Luuka have organized health camps and pledged to construct a standard hospital at Bulongo in Luuka town council starting next year.
“We’re blessed that through the chiefdom leadership, a health center IV is being constructed in Gwembuzi, and the American friends of Luuka are going to construct an international hospital in Bulongo, Luuka town council under the stewardship of Tabingwa. We therefore base on these achievements to glorify God,” Mr. Lwigo added.
Highlighting future aspirations, Mr. Lwigo mentioned Luuka’s aim to construct a smart village, which is expected to drive the development of the people in the next decade. The district has also witnessed contributions from prominent personalities like Prof. Dr. Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira, the chairman of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, and an educationist. Through Luuka Patriots Association (LUPA), Dr. Lubega has actively supported various initiatives, including housing for health workers, providing tools for youths, and offering bursaries to students.
The article also acknowledges the significant support from the government of Uganda, led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who doubles as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman. The district received substantial funds for road rehabilitation, Parish Development Model (PDM), and other developmental projects.
In response to these blessings, the Luuka monarchy has organized a joint prayer service to intercede for the fulfillment of Luuka’s dreams and to express gratitude for the positive developments. Mr. Lwigo called upon the people of Luuka, including business people and civil servants, to actively participate in the prayer session and collectively pray for the continued progress of Luuka district.
