In a colourful ceremony held on May 30th, 2025, at Busei village in Iganga Municipality, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, the Issebantu Kyabazinga of Busoga, was officially installed as the first Chancellor of Lubega Institute of Nursing and Health Professionals. The occasion drew cultural leaders, kingdom ministers, and community members, celebrating a new chapter in the institute’s journey.
The Executive Director of the institute, Prof. Dr. Lubega Muhamadi, who also serves as the 1st Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, led the handover ceremony. He presented the Kyabazinga with the institute’s symbols of authority, including the mace and Chancellor’s medallion. Prof. Lubega praised the Kyabazinga as a leader who blends traditional leadership, academic values, and global vision—qualities that make him an ideal figure to guide the institution into the future. He emphasized that this appointment is a major step forward for the institute’s mission of promoting health education and developing young professionals in Uganda. He added that the monarch’s presence would attract more partnerships and help build a stronger academic foundation.
In his speech, His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV expressed his gratitude and commitment to serve. He noted that his role as Chancellor will be focused on guiding the institution’s vision, strengthening academic standards, and acting as a link between the institute and external stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of unity, transparency, and teamwork as key drivers of success. The Kyabazinga called on all staff and students to work together with a shared sense of purpose to achieve their collective goals.
Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, praised the efforts of Prof. Lubega and the entire institute’s leadership team. He said their hard work and dedication had made the institution worthy of having the Kyabazinga as Chancellor. Dr. Muvawala also expressed his appreciation for all those who have worked to uplift the Busoga Kingdom, including the Luwangula family. He assured the audience that the leadership of the Kingdom would use their positions to support the institute’s growth and transformation into one of the country’s leading universities in health and medical sciences.
The ceremony was attended by several traditional leaders from across Busoga, including the Issabalangira, Menhya of Bugweri Chiefdom Sam Nkuutu, Kisiki of Busiki, Nkono of Bukono, and Luba of Bunha, among others. Their presence added a deep cultural meaning to the event, showing unity and shared pride in the Kyabazinga’s new role.
Also present were key ministers from the Busoga Kingdom government, such as Owek. Yudaya Babirye (Kyabazinga Affairs), Owek. Alex Luganda (Constitutional Affairs), Owek. Ivan Kiirya (State Minister for Finance), and Owek. Nasabu Nantale (State Minister for Education), who all witnessed this historic moment.
