    Mayuge District: The vibrancy of Busoga Kingdom was on full display as the 6th edition of the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup tournament commenced with a colorful inauguration on August 20th. His Majesty William Gabula Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, took center stage to flag off the much-anticipated event.

    The inaugural match took place at the Bwondha Town Council playground in Bunhole-Bunhanumba Chiefdom, Mayuge district. Amidst the enthusiastic cheers of a massive crowd, the Kyabazinga arrived at approximately 3:00pm to witness the game unfold. Alongside him were notable figures including Busoga Kingdom’s Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Busoga Kingdom’s 2nd Deputy Prime Minister Owek. Alhaj Osman Ahmed Noor, MTN Uganda’s Manager Sponsorships and Events John Paul Okwi, Haojue Motorcycle Company Uganda’s Operations Manager Wei Biao, Nile Breweries Ltd’s Regional Sales Manager Babewo Anolrde, Namutumba District Woman MP Mariam Naigaga, Issabalangira of Busoga Samuel Zirabamuzale Nkuutu, various hereditary chiefs, Busoga Kingdom Ministers, and other dignitaries.

    The Kyabazinga graced the opening match, setting the tone for the tournament that will witness the 14 counties of Busoga Kingdom engaging in spirited competitions across diverse playgrounds within their respective chiefdoms.

    In a display of impressive skills and sportsmanship, both teams showcased their talent on the field. Bukooli Namayingo County FC’s Odenga Iduma made a significant impact by securing a goal in the first half, placing his team in the lead with a score of 1-0.

    As the game progressed into the second half, the excitement in the air heightened. Barasa Levis of Bukooli Namayingo County FC scored a second goal, sending ripples of joy among the supporters who were passionately following the match. The final whistle blew with a score of 2-0 in favor of Bukooli Namayingo County FC against their opponents, Bunhole-Bunhanumba.

    Owek. Alhaj Osman Ahmed Noor, the 2nd Deputy Premier, flanked by the Kingdom Sports Ministers Owek. Amin Bbosa and Owek. Daniel Musota, reiterated the Kingdom’s resolute commitment to providing enriching experiences for the people of Busoga. Soccer, as an integral part of the culture, holds a special place in this endeavor.

    John Paul Okwi, MTN Uganda’s Manager Sponsorships and Events, underlined the company’s deep respect for cultural values and its significance as an identity marker for their customers.

    The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Kingdom officials, chiefs, and Members of Parliament who shared in the celebration. Isabalangira of Busoga, Sam Menha Kakaire Nkuutu, Owek. Yudaya Babirye, Owek. Ivan Kiirya, Owek. James Mukembo, Hon. Iddi Isabirye, Hon. Mariam Naigaga, and Moses Grace Balyeku among others, added to the festive atmosphere.

    In addition to MTN Uganda, Haojue Motorcycle Company Ltd and Nile Breweries Ltd extended their support as sponsors for the MTN Busoga Masaza Cup.
