During a Royal Banquet at his Igenge Palace in Bugembe, Jinja City, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Nadiope Gabula IV, fed hundreds of his subjects in celebration of his 36th birthday.
The King, who was in the company of his Queen, Jovia Mutesi, majestically cut the cake together before serving it to the invited guests, who included several dignitaries from both the central government and the kingdom.
Shining in a royal suit with a bowtie, His Majesty commended the notable participants who graced the colorful and memorable event at the palace.
“You have not merely come here; you have come to celebrate our birthday and mark thirty-six years,” the Kyabazinga said in his remarks, emphasizing that coming together was a sign of unity.
The Kyabazinga commended the people of Busoga for embracing his call for togetherness, highlighting that it is the pathway to development.
First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga, Busoga Kingdom Prime Minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, Minister of General Duties Justine Lumumba Kasule, FUFA President Moses Magogo, and Engineer Badru Kiggundu, the former head of Uganda’s Electoral Commission, among others, were the key dignitaries who graced the significant occasion.
“It is very fortunate that our friends from within and outside Busoga are here with us today. When someone continues to grow, they continue losing friends, but as Busoga, we are lucky that you [friends] are still around, and many more are still coming,” he further said.
The King also praised development partners for undertaking the transformation of Busoga Kingdom through proactive initiatives.
At the event, the Kingdom officially unveiled Busoga United as Busoga’s football club, and the Kyabazinga endorsed the team by signing the documents acknowledging its adoption.
The Prime Minister of Busoga, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, instructed the Busoga Kingdom Lukiiko (Council) to pass a resolution officially recognizing Busoga United as the kingdom’s team.
“Baba Kyabazinga, Busoga United is now our team. Let us give it the relevant support,” Dr. Muvawala rallied Basoga to support the team.
The birthday celebration was held under the theme: “Transforming Busoga through Sports and Culture.”
FUFA President Moses Magogo emphasized the bright future of Busoga United, highlighting that it would require an annual funding of Shs 500 million, which would be mobilized for its support.
