The police in Kamuli have arrested a 28-year-old man, Kabanda Abudalah, on suspicion of defiling his 15-year-old stepdaughter. Kabanda, a native doctor from Butangala in Northern Division of Kamuli Municipality, was taken into custody on Wednesday.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld, is a Primary 5 student at Buzibirira Primary School in Kamuli. According to initial investigations, Kabanda began a sexual relationship with his stepdaughter in 2020 and took advantage of her mother’s busy schedule to abuse her.

Michael Kasadha, spokesperson for Busoga North Police, explained that earlier this year, the school administration discovered that the victim was pregnant. She later revealed that Kabanda was responsible for the pregnancy, and with her mother’s help, she underwent an abortion.

The matter was reported to Kamuli Central Police Station, resulting in the registration of a case of aggravated defilement (Kamuli SD Reference 52/26/06/2024, Kamuli CRB 660/2024). The police visited the scene of the crime, documented evidence, and ensured that the victim received medical and psycho-social support from Uganda Women Network’s Kamuli Field Office.

Investigations are ongoing to gather more information about the alleged defilement.
