The Delton Bar and Lodge, located in Katwe zone in Bugembe, Jinja city, has come under intense scrutiny due to allegations that it facilitated an environment where Paul Mwanje, a suspect facing charges of aggravated defilement, allegedly sexually abused his own daughter.
According to reports, the facility has been renting a room to Mwanje, who is accused of engaging in sexual activities with his 14-year-old daughter on multiple occasions. Ronald Lyavala owns the establishment, but he is currently evading authorities. Additionally, all the staff of the bar have reportedly deserted the place to avoid arrest.
On Tuesday, police visited the scene of the alleged crime and apprehended a receptionist, identified as Prossy Naziwa, who was found on duty. During police interrogation, Naziwa, aged 20, claimed she doesn’t know the whereabouts of her boss since news of the allegations surfaced on social media.
James Mubi, the Kiira region spokesperson, stated, “The receptionist has been arrested, owner and workers on the run. The receptionist revealed that the accused person has been frequenting the place and taking marijuana as well.”
Mubi further explained that Naziwa is being detained on charges of being an accessory before the commission of the crime, emphasizing that sexual relations involving persons under 18 are considered null and void.
Efforts to apprehend the owner, Lyavala, are ongoing, with the police committed to setting an example with the Delton Bar and Lodge for other proprietors and employees who fail to protect children from sexual abuse.
It is alleged that Mwanje had been purchasing food items such as chapati and sodas for his daughter, whom he allegedly coerced into a pseudo-marital relationship, while neglecting his other two young sons, who were left with meager rations of porridge, often without sugar.
