    In the  first-leg clashes of the Rugby Championship quarterfinals, Jinja clubs experienced divergent fates, capturing attention on the field and online platforms.

    Hippos stamp authority with victory

    At their home ground, Hippos roared back from an early deficit to win against Toyota Buffaloes. Facing a 10-0 deficit, Hippos rallied with remarkable resilience to secure a commanding 40-21 victory. Tries from Jacob Ochen, Opio Julius, and Brighton Bakasa, coupled with precise kicking from Elvis Opira, propelled the Hippos to a 2-0 aggregate win to fuel online discussions and  delighting fans.

     Walukuba Barbarians fall to strong Heathen

    On the contrasting end, Walukuba Barbarians faced a daunting challenge against Platinum Credit Heathens. Despite their best efforts, the Barbarians succumbed to a resounding 25-0 defeat at Kyadondo, unable to penetrate the Heathens’ formidable defense. The one-sided affair garnered attention online, sparking discussions about the Heathens’ dominance and the Barbarians’ resilience in the face of adversity.

    Other Results

    Amidst the Jinja clubs’ performances, other teams showcased their ability in tightly contested encounters;

    KCB KOBs secured a narrow 17-13 victory against Plascon Mongers while Stanbic Black Pirates exhibited defensive grit to hold off a late Rhinos surge, clinching a hard-fought 10-7 away win and igniting conversations about their championship aspirations.

    In the upcoming second leg of the quarterfinals, all eyes are on the Heathens and Hippos, who are on the verge of securing semifinal berths following their impressive performances in the initial matches while other fixtures will be more less like finals.
