The battle to avoid relegation in the 2023/2024 Startimes Uganda Premier League has reached a critical juncture, with two Jinja-based football clubs fighting for survival after Arua Hills SC was relegated earlier on in the season. The pressure keeps mounting for these teams to secure crucial points and avoid the drop to the lower division
Ten teams in the bottom half find themselves in the fight as well due to their recent performances as the league reaches Match Day 23. However, UPDF FC, Gaddafi FC, and Busoga United appear to be the most vulnerable, with Wakiso Giants, Soltilo Bright Stars, and Mbarara City closely trailing.
Every remaining fixture is crucial for these struggling teams, with each match essentially a final in their battle for survival.
In an upcoming relegation showdown, Gaddafi FC will travel to Bombo Barracks Ground on Tuesday, April 16th to face UPDF FC, in what promises to be a crucial encounter. Two days later, Busoga United will also travel to Luzira Prisons Ground to face Maroons in another pivotal or must win match for the visitors.
Busoga United must deliver exceptional performances to secure their survival, especially with matches against title contenders BUL, Kitara, and Vipers in their final three games plus a game against Wakiso Giants as they stand at 18 points level with Gaddafi FC.
Gaddafi FC as well faces a tough run-in, including away fixtures against BUL and Kitara, after hosting SC Villa. The other games are against; Wakiso Giants, Maroons FC and UPDF FC.
Luck, and banking on other fixtures as the League heads into the final bend will be one of the orders of the day as the two Jinja based sides fight for survival. Meanwhile BUL FC, is chasing their maiden Uganda Premier League title with tight competition from Kitara, Vipers, and SC Villa.
